Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Paraguay residency, from requirements to tax benefits.

General Questions

No. Paraguay has no minimum stay requirement for temporary or permanent residency. You simply need to visit once every three years to maintain your status. Most of our clients continue living and working wherever they choose—this is what makes Paraguay ideal for digital nomads and location-independent professionals.
Yes, absolutely. Paraguay operates a territorial tax system, meaning only income earned within Paraguay is taxable. Income from foreign clients, foreign investments, or work performed outside Paraguay is legally exempt from Paraguayan income tax. This is the same principle used by Panama, Costa Rica, and other countries. It's 100% legal and recognized internationally.
  • 0% tax on foreign income - Territorial tax system
  • Minimal presence requirements - Visit once every 3 years
  • Fast processing - 60-120 days typical
  • Low cost - No investment required for standard residency
  • Path to citizenship - Eligible after 3 years permanent residency
  • Political stability - Consistent, business-friendly policies

Requirements & Documents

No to both. The medical exam requirement was removed. The $5,000 bank deposit requirement was eliminated in 2022. These are outdated requirements you may see on other websites that haven't updated their information. Paraguay now has one of the most accessible residency programs in Latin America.
  • Valid passport (6+ months validity)
  • Birth certificate (apostilled)
  • Police clearance/background check (apostilled)
  • Passport-style photos
  • Marriage certificate if applicable (apostilled)

All documents must be apostilled in your home country and translated to Spanish. We coordinate the translation process for you.

No, not for the residency process. We provide Spanish interpretation at all government appointments and handle all documentation in Spanish. While Spanish knowledge is helpful for daily life if you plan to live there, it's not required for obtaining residency.

Process & Timeline

Most clients complete the process in 60-120 days from start to receiving their Cédula (national ID). The timeline depends on:
  • How quickly you gather and apostille your documents (2-4 weeks)
  • Government processing times (4-8 weeks)
  • Cédula issuance (2-4 weeks)
It depends on your package:
  • Essential Package: 2 trips (submit application + collect Cédula)
  • Professional/Executive Package: 1 trip (5-7 days) - we collect your Cédula on your behalf

Temporary Residency: The first step for most applicants. Valid for 1 year, renewable. Gives you a Cédula (national ID) and access to the territorial tax system.

Permanent Residency: Available after 21-24 months of temporary residency, or immediately via the SUACE investor route. Required before applying for citizenship.
